The worth and effectiveness of our journey today depends on how we see YESterday. When we were or are gripped by the “No’s” we have said to Jesus and the “Yes’s” we have said to sin we can be held up by a false understanding of Christ. If we are not excited about today, believing God for his best not for just “me” but for others, then maybe we are wrapped up in the NO’s of life called guilt.
Have we forgotten the tragedy of being lost, lonely, worried and guilty? Or are we heavily burdened by the guilt that comes from Satan about the “shames” of yesterday or the “sin games” of today.
If we’re not living the message of forgiveness, it may be because we are gripped by the guilt of yesterday. Perhaps not just “my” guilt…but the guilt of others.
Living in the guilt of YESterday is detrimental to living the YES life today. Paul says, “Remember Jesus Christ—raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel. . .” (2 Timothy 2:8).
When YESterday is bigger than TOday… when the pain of shame, when people don’t listen, when tears come, when disappointment in self or others is bigger than joy, when fear pitches its tent in your frontal lobe, ,when death looms, when shame weighs heavily, what is the answer?
It is Joy for the Journey! Jesus says, “I have come that you might have joy…and your joy might be full.” That truly is the YES life of TODAY that covers the guilt and shame of yesterday.
To simplify Life we must dig a hole at Christ’s Cross and bury guilt.
